Fashion Bug Challenge Trophy - Annual Football Tournament 2013

The Fashion Bug Football Challenge Trophy 2013 was successfully launched and carried out on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of February 2013 at the Bandarawela Municipal Stadium. The inter- school seven-a-side tournament comprised of 22 schools in the Uva District, playing good football in sportsmanship and skill that was surprisingly outstanding. The teams battled on leaving the exceptionally talented teams of St. Joseph's College- Bandarawela and Al Adham Muslim College- Badulla for the final battle. Both the teams had scored 2 goals each at the end of the second half-time encompassing a draw whence the referee declared 2 free-kicks for each team. The St. Joseph's team emerged the undisputed champion claiming both of the goals in style. The finale was graced by Hon. Mayor-Bandarawela- Mr. Chaminda Wijesiri, Hon. Deputy Mayor- Mr. Anura Waththuhewa , DIG M.R. Latif, SSP Roshan Wijesinghe, SSP Roshan Wijesinghe, Deputy Minister Education- Mr. Chandrasena and MP Naushad, President- Football Ferderation- Bandarawela- Mr. Zarouk and close to 500 enthusiastic viewers and supporters. St Joseph's College- Bandarawela walked away with the trophy while Al Adham Muslim College- Badulla, Rasik Fareed Muslim College and Hindu Central College- Bandarawela emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners up consecutively. D.M.P. Sandaruwan of St. Joseph's College Bandarawela was named the 'Goal Keeper of the Tournament' while M. R. Azawan of Al Adham claimed the title of' Player of the Tournament'. It was a truly a memorable event laced with emotion as the Champions and the runners up celebrated their victory in the right spirit of the game. It was evident that Fashion Bug had touched the hearts and minds of a multitude of people through this tournament that was indeed a celebration of team-spirit, resilience, camaraderie and the love of Football. The teams, distinguished guests who are corner stones of the Uva district as well as the Football federation expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Fashion Bug for initiating and organizing a tournament of this magnitude against all odds after a lapse of 30 years, inviting us to make the tournament and annual platform, increasing the age limit perhaps, for aspiring footballers of the Uva Province.
