Roo siththam 2017 Art competition.
Once again the much awaited ‘Roo Siththam’, the annual art competition organised by Fashion Bug. Proved to be a resounding success with over 65,000 entries being received. from over 300 schools island-wide. Roo siththam 2017 is the signature annual event pertaining to ‘SISU DIRIMAGA ’ – Fashion Bug’s social sustainability platform dedicated to education and the upliftment of Sri Lankan students.
About Roo-siththam Art competition-2017
Initiated in 2011 with the objective of identifying the creative talents of school children, this year’s theme was ‘Together towards a cleaner Sri Lanka’, with 2017 being the seventh consecutive year that Roo Siththam. This is year a special category was opened for the Paintings and drawings created by disabled children from many special schools across the country as a source of encouragement and pride for the disabled community.
About the award ceremony & prize distribution
The awards ceremony and prize distribution of Roo-siththam Art competition-2017 was held recently with the Chief Guest being Hon. Susil Premajayantha. Minister of Science, Technology and Research , while the Guests of Honour were award winning artist Rohana Baddage & award winning actress Chamila Peiris.
The competition which is organised under the supervision of the Department of Arts – Ministry of Education was held in Colombo and another in Kandy which will award the second batch of winners which will be held next week. There were three age groups: 7-9, 10-12 and 13-16, with the judges being lecturers from the University of Visual and Performing Arts. This event has been growing in size and popularity over the last five years with a year on year growth in the number of entries being submitted. School principals, a large number of teachers and parents attended the event, which have now become a much looked forward to event in the school’s annual calendar.
